Kara is a clinically licensed social worker with 20 years of experience working in the world of women’s health and mental health. Graduating from the University of Iowa in 2006 with a Master’s Degree in Public Health, she focused on maternal, child and family health receiving specialized training from Dr. Michael O’Hara and Dr. Scott Stuart- prominent researchers and clinicians in postpartum mood disorders. In 2009, she received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas, where she continued her training in women’s mental health, focusing on body image, eating and exercise disorders. She received her Certification in Perinatal Mental Health in 2022. She is currently focusing her education and training on the peri/menopausal stage of life.
Like any social worker, she has worked in many landscapes including non-profits, hospital settings and higher-level of care programs for women, and is grateful to find her home here at Centimano Counseling where she can combine her love of helping heal the brain and body.
She uses a holistic approach and pulls from family systems theory, trauma and the body work, cognitive behavioral therapies, and possibly some sarcastic humor on the side.
